Harry Potter Party - Food

I've shown you our Harry Potter photo booth, the party decorations, and the mandrake activity, but now it's time for one of my favorite subjects--food!

We had a fabulous feast in the Great Hall.  Our dinner was potluck, so I sent out a sign up sheet for members of my family to pick out food they'd like to bring.  Click HERE for the sign up sheet I used.  It has typical foods that were eaten throughout the Harry Potter series.

We had mashed potatoes, roast beef, pork chops, carrots, salad, Gillywater, Pumpkin Juice, and Butter Beer for dinner.

Pork Chops
6-8 Pork Chops (depending on the number of people attending)
Italian Dressing
Soy Sauce

Pour Italian dressing and soy sauce into a gallon-sized ziplock bag.  Put the pork chops in the bag.  Let marinate over-night.  Grill over medium heat.

The pumpkin juice was surprisingly good.  Princess loved helping me make it.  Stirring is her favorite thing to do in the kitchen.

Pumpkin Juice
(From Recipe Party Recipes)
2 c canned pumpkin
6 c apple juice
2 c pineapple juice
1/2 c sugar
Ground cinnamon, to taste
Ground nutmeg, to taste
Ground ginger, to taste
Ground pumpkin pie spice, to taste

Pour canned pumpkin and juices into a large pitcher.  Add the sugar and stir thoroughly.  Add your spices (to taste).  Chill or serve iced.

I got the pumpkin juice label from Over the Big Moon.  Click HERE to print your own.

I've tried a couple versions of Butter Beer now, and this has been my favorite so far.

Cold Butter Beer
Cream soda (chilled)
1-2 t butterscotch-flavored sundae syrup (per mug)
Butter Beer Foam (below)

Pour the cream soda into your mug.  Leave 1-2 inches at the top.  Stir in your sundae syrup.  Top with foam.  Sigh contentedly.

Butter Beer Foam
1/2 c heavy whipping cream
1/4 c powdered sugar
1 t butterscotch-flavored instant pudding mix

Whisk ingredients together until soft peaks form and it resembles whipped cream.  Set aside.

The Disney Diner also had a recipe for warm butter beer that sounds heavenly.  I WILL be trying it out soon.

Again, I got the label from Over the Big Moon.  Click HERE to print your own.

Did I mention that dinner was brilliant?!

After the house elves had cleared away dinner, it was time for dessert at Honeydukes.  There were so many fun, tasty treats to tickle anyone's fancy.  We had apple pie a la mode, chocolates to cure any remedy, clever candies, and so much more!

Let's start with the candy.  We had Licorice Wands, Ton-Tongue Toffee (Werther's Original), Cockroach Clusters (Nestle Buncha Crunch), and Bertie Botts Every-Flavored Beans.

The candy labels are from Over the Big Moon.  Click HERE and grab some for your party!

Look at these acid pops!  Fun huh?  Here's the recipe so you can make your own:

Acid Pops
Tootsie Roll Pops
Pop Rocks
1/4 c light corn syrup

Heat the corn syrup in the microwave for 30 seconds.  Roll the Tootsie Pops in the corn syrup, then roll them in the pop rocks.  The kids especially liked these.

Get your candy labels from Over the Big Moon.  Click HERE.

What is a Harry Potter party without chocolate frogs?

Here's nice look at one of the chocolate frog boxes.

When you opened it up and take the frog out, there was a laminated wizard card underneath.

On the back of the box it gave information about the wizard on your card.  I found these chocolate frog boxes on Harry Potter Paraphernalia.  To print your own click HERE.

Here is a chocolate frog.  I didn't have a chocolate frog mold, so I found some cute gummy frogs at Winco in the candy bins.  I dipped them in chocolate, set them out on parchment paper, let them cool in the refrigerator and presto! - chocolate frogs.

My sister made a trifle.  If you like blue berries you will love this.

Berry Trifle
1 cake mix, any flavor (we used yellow)
1 large box instant pudding, any flavor (we used vanilla)
Fresh blueberries
Fresh strawberries
Fresh raspberries
Whipped cream

Make the cake as directed on the box.  Bake in a cookie sheet rather than a cake pan.  While it's baking, make the pudding and refrigerate.  When the cake has cooled, cut it into 1" squares.  Layer a large bowl with cake, pudding, and berries any way you would like.  Top with whipped cream.

The fresh blueberries is what really made this trifle!

The rice pudding my brother made was delicious!  This is the best rice pudding I have ever had--hands down!

Mexican Rice Pudding
7 c water
1 c long-grain white rice
1 (4-inch) cinnamon stick
1 (12-oz) can evaporated milk
1 (14-oz) can condensed milk
1 c whole milk
3/4 c golden raisins
Ground cinnamon, for dusting

Put the water, rice, and cinnamon stick in a medium-size heavy saucepan set over medium-high heat.  Bring to a boil, uncovered, and cook until the rice is tender, about 18 minutes.  Strain out the liquid, discard the cinnamon, and reserve the rice.  Return the rice to the saucepan.  Stir in the evaporated milk, condensed milk, and whole milk.  Continue cooking over medium-high heat until the mixture comes to a boil.  Reduce heat to low and cook, uncovered, stirring constantly, until the mixture is thick, about 20 minutes.  Add the raisins and stir well.  Transfer the pudding to a serving bowl.  Dust the top of the pudding with the ground cinnamon and serve.

Now you have all the makings to have your own Harry Potter feast.  I hope you enjoy "zis' 'eavy 'ogwarts food" (Fleur Delacour).

Harry Potter Party Decorations

If you need some tips and pictures to help you put together your own Harry Potter party you have come to the right place.  Let me walk you through Diagon Alley, The Great Hall, Moaning Myrtle's Bathroom, and more.

After coming in through platform 9 3/4 my Harry Potter you would arrive at Honeydukes where you could grab a quick treat before entering Diagon Alley.

Walking through Diagon Alley you could visit Olivander's, perhaps pick up a copy of the Daily Prophet, or admire the broomsticks.

Time for dinner in The Great Hall.

The sorting hat.  I simply pinned some brown fabric over a witch hat.

You would either be sorted into either Gryffindor or Slytherin.  Here is the Slytherin table.

The Gryffindor table.

Candles and owls hung in the sky.  I used little tea candles (look for them around Christmas time).  I made the owls using fleece, felt, a Sharpie, tacky glue, and batting for stuffing.  My children adore those little owls!

They looked cute during the day...

But at night they looked amazing!

Why is it everything looks better at night?

In the kitchen there were some cook books.

If you get lucky, you may even spot a house elf.

The banquet table.

Owls and candles everywhere (cheap and cute!).

Time to explore Hogwarts castle.

Here is the moving staircase complete with a Hogwarts crest and teacher portraits.

If you head upstairs you would find Gryffindor common room.  Password?

In the Prefect's Bathroom there was a mermaid on the mirror (sorry it's hard to see).  I traced a mermaid with Sharpie markers onto Saran Wrap.

Here's the egg that Harry got from the dragon.  I used a paper mache egg from Hobby Lobby, painted it with gold acrylic paint, and hot glued on the gemstones.  I then filled a vase with fish tank pebbles and set the egg on top.

It's hard to see, but the tub was full of bubble bath and glow sticks.

Ooh!  Aah!  I also brought a bubble machine so that bubbles would fall around anyone using the bathroom.

Outside you would find Herbology class.

Down in the charms class we had feathers flying all over the room.

In Charm's class we had an Alohamora Horcrux Hunt.  Check it out HERE.

Here's the little library.

There was a crackling fireplace with floo powder (Fun Dip) sitting in a bowl next to it.  Click HERE if you would like to use the same fireplace video for your party.

Meanwhile, near Moaning Myrtle's bathroom...

Hermione must have been working on some polyjuice potion.

Snakes everywhere!

A little surprise for those who needed to use the toilet.

Last, but not least, in the dungeon we find potion's class.

Come on down.

Snape really needs to tidy up.

Once the lights were turned down and the black light was turned on everything looked amazing!

I hope you enjoyed your walk through Hogwarts.

Now, I am going to flood you with links to all of the printables.  Your printer might be disgruntled by the time you're done.
