Strawberry Float

Root beer floats are a 4th of July staple in our house.  My hubby can't get enough of them!  I thought it might be fun to shake up the usual routine by making strawberry floats.

I bought some strawberry kiwi Shasta and strawberry revel ice cream.  We loaded it up just like a root beer float - ice cream on the bottom, pour the drink over the top.  Princess loved that the ice cream looked pink.

We all thought it was a tasty little drink (although Hubby, always the purist, said real root beer floats are better).

Think of all of the different flavors you could try - orange, grape, lime, etc.

Lemon-Lime Fizzy Drink

The luck of the Irish has brought you here!  Welcome to Pinning with Purpose!

Today we will dive into a delectable drink for St. Patrick's Day (although you could have it anytime).  It's the simplest thing in the world to make.  All you need is a lemon-lime soda and a carton of lime sherbet ice cream.  Put your sherbet into a punch bowl.  Pour the soda over the top and stir.  That's it!

You will have a tasty little drink that everyone will love.

Try using different flavors of sherbet and soda.  Let me know which one is your favorite!

Red, White, & Blue Smoothie

Happy 4th of July!

I made super fun chocolate-dipped strawberries for my kids to eat for lunch.  I have been on a bit of a health kick (they come and go) and so I wanted to make something festive, and also healthy.

Enter the red, white, and blue smoothie.  Let's take a closer look.

You will need 12 oz milk, 1 T flax seed, 1 ripe banana, 1 t sweetener of your choice, a dash of cinnamon, 2 handfuls frozen blueberries, and 6-7 frozen strawberries.  Blend until it is the desired consistency and enjoy!

It was absolutely delicious!

The Perfect Orange Julius

Look at that picture.

Just look at it!

I was rummaging through some old recipes I used to make when I was a teenager and came across this gem.  This recipe was given to me in Activity Days when I was 10 years old (why yes, I am a bit of a recipe pack rat.  How did you know?)  When you eat this you will feel as though you are drinking an orange creamsicle.  I'm not kidding!

Here's what you need to make your own heaven-in-your-mouth:

Ingredients:
1/2 can orange juice concentrate, frozen
1 c water
1/3 c sugar
1 1/2 c milk
1/4-1/2 t vanilla (depending on your taste preferences)
15-20 ice cubes

Combine all ingredients in a blender, pour yourself a large cup-full, and savor every bite.

Everyone in my house loves this drink.  My kids begged me to make it two days in a row.

You could try to make it healthier by using Splenda instead of sugar.  Maybe even nectar or honey would work.  If you modify it, let me know how it tasted.  I love hearing from you readers!

Pink Milk

Valentine's Day is everything Princess loves.  Hearts, candy, flowers, and especially PINK.  Pink is her absolute favorite color.  I saw these cute strawberry milk bottles and knew I had to make something similar.  They are pink and strawberry flavored--bound to be a hit.

Here's what you need: a glass of milk, strawberry syrup, and Red Vines.

Pour in the syrup.  The more you pour the more flavorful the milk will be.  Don't get too carried away though.

Stir, stick in your Red Vine straw, and voila!  You can always dress up the cup with sprinkles on the edge or paper lips on the straw.

Mmm!  Pink milk!

Goofy loved it too.  Both kids asked for seconds of the strawberry milk.  I nearly fell over.  My kids hardly drink anything!  Looks like a new Valentine's tradition has been born.

Pumpkin Pie White Hot Chocolate

Look at what I found when I walked out the door this morning...

SNOW!  I love, love, love snow!  My hubby hates to drive in it, and it can be a pain, but just look at how pretty it is.

Pretty pretty pretty.  Bud loves the snow because I bundle him up all snuggly and warm.

AW!

Now, snow makes everything feel like Christmas to me.  I love Christmas, but I have a little problem: I'm one of those people who doesn't like to skip Thanksgiving/Fall.  I don't like skipping any holiday.  I needed something warm and fall-like.  As I sat scrolling through my pins I came across this Pumpkin Pie White Hot Chocolate recipe.  Oh my goodness!  It was absolutely delicious!

It was the perfect blend of pumpkin and white chocolate.  It warmed me right through.

Princess loved it!

She was afraid of getting burned at first, so she drank it through a straw.

If any of you are in need of something warm and pumpkin-y give this recipe a try.  You won't be disappointed!

Pumpkin Pie White Hot Chocolate
3 c whole milk
1 c pumpkin puree
1/2 t cinnamon
1/4 t ginger
1/8 t nutmeg
1/8 t cloves
1 t vanilla
4 oz white chocolate (roughly chopped)
a pinch of salt

Combine milk, pumpkin, and spices in a sauce pan.  Cook until simmering.  Remove from heat.  Add chocolate and stir until melted.  Top with whipped cream, cinnamon, or marshmallows.  Enjoy!

Basic Smoothie

If you've been following my blog you know I am training for a 5k.  This week the goals were:

1. Exercise 4 times this week
2. Run/walk the whole 3 miles
3. Eat only 1 treat per day

Goals 1 and 2 I passed with flying colors.  Next week is the 5k and my goal is to run it around 35 minutes.  I'll let you know how it goes.

As for goal 3...well...darn it, I didn't do it.  I just love sweets too much!  How could you not?  They are so good!

But, I happen to love fruit, so I am trying to trade fruit for sweets.  I saw this basic smoothie recipe on Pinterest and knew I had to try it out.  So this morning I made a strawberry banana smoothie instead of eating my sugar-coated cereal.

Is that not much better looking than cereal?!  I sure thought it tasted better.  It was almost like having ice cream for breakfast.  Here's how I made it:

Basic Strawberry Banana Smoothie
1 ripe banana (browning a little on the skin)
1/2 bag frozen strawberries
1 c milk
3 heaping spoonfuls (about 1/2 c) vanilla yogurt

Blend together and enjoy!

You could make it even healthier by adding protein, etc. to your smoothie.

I was afraid it wouldn't be sweet enough for me, but it was plenty sweet.  Imagine all of the different fruit or yogurt flavors you could use.  What will you come up with?
