Basic Smoothie

If you've been following my blog you know I am training for a 5k.  This week the goals were:

1. Exercise 4 times this week
2. Run/walk the whole 3 miles
3. Eat only 1 treat per day

Goals 1 and 2 I passed with flying colors.  Next week is the 5k and my goal is to run it around 35 minutes.  I'll let you know how it goes.

As for goal 3...well...darn it, I didn't do it.  I just love sweets too much!  How could you not?  They are so good!

But, I happen to love fruit, so I am trying to trade fruit for sweets.  I saw this basic smoothie recipe on Pinterest and knew I had to try it out.  So this morning I made a strawberry banana smoothie instead of eating my sugar-coated cereal.

Is that not much better looking than cereal?!  I sure thought it tasted better.  It was almost like having ice cream for breakfast.  Here's how I made it:

Basic Strawberry Banana Smoothie
1 ripe banana (browning a little on the skin)
1/2 bag frozen strawberries
1 c milk
3 heaping spoonfuls (about 1/2 c) vanilla yogurt

Blend together and enjoy!

You could make it even healthier by adding protein, etc. to your smoothie.

I was afraid it wouldn't be sweet enough for me, but it was plenty sweet.  Imagine all of the different fruit or yogurt flavors you could use.  What will you come up with?
