Movable Mouth Puppets Tutorial

Do you remember watching Sesame Street as a kid and wishing you had a puppet like that to play with?  Or is it just me?  I used to make paper bag puppets and sock puppets to play with.  I even tried to make a marionette using a ruler, string, and aluminum foil.  Needless to say, it didn't work very well.

My dad always tells me that I never grew up.  Perhaps he's right.  To fulfill my movable mouth puppet dream, I went to YouTube determined to find a way to make a puppet of my own.  At the bottom of this post are the videos I watched to make my puppets.  If you have limited sewing skills (like yours truly) you can do this.  I was very pleased with the results.

Here is the first puppet I made.  I named him Bob.  He was my trial pattern.  After some tweaking I came up with these:

My daughter named all of the puppets.  These puppets are Witch Matilda and Prince Rich.

This is Princess Rosie.  She is Princess' favorite puppet of course.

This is a pirate I made a little boy for his birthday.

I made the puppets big so that I can play with them too.  (What can I say?  I made them as much for me as for my kids.)

Here is Wizard Zeke.  I had so much fun making the puppets.  Princess played with the puppets for hours--days even!  For some reason, puppets never seem to get old.  Check out the videos and make your own.  Let me know how it goes.
