Premortal Life FHE Lesson

Our latest Family Home Evening lesson was from the Gospel Principles manual chapter 3: Jesus Christ Our Chosen Leader and Savior.

I sectioned off the living room with streamers and a sign that said Premortal Life.

While I was working on sectioning off the living room, the kids had fun running around the kitchen with the extra streamers.

Princess was having a particularly fun time.

All done with the living room!

We started the lesson at the kitchen table with my handy Plan of Salvation magnets.  I pointed to "Earth Life" and told the kids that this is where we are now, but that's not where we began.  Before we came to Earth we were spirits in the premortal life.  Before the kids could enter the Premortal Life area, they needed to be spirits.

My mom used to make witch costumes for my sister and me all the time out of black garbage bags.  I just used white garbage bags to represent our spirits.  Princess thought they were super fun.

Little spirit Goofy.

They headed into "Premortal Life."  On the floor was a line made from tape.

On one side of the room it said "Satan" and on the other it said "Jesus" and had a picture of Jesus underneath.

(My hubby thought it was funny that Bud looks like he has fire in his eyes in this picture.  He was sitting on the "Satan" side of the room.  He he!)

We talked about how we didn't have bodies in the spirit world.  Heavenly Father offered us a plan to send us to Earth and get a body.  We would be tested each day to make good choices.  Sometimes we would make mistakes.  A Savior would be provided for us so that we can repent and return to Heavenly Father.  Jesus offered to be that Savior for us.

Satan also had a plan.  He would force everyone to make good choices so that we all could return to Heavenly Father.

To really cement the point I showed the girls a basket full of eggs.  I told them to pick any egg they wanted.  After they made their choices I told them that with Heavenly Father's plan they could choose whatever they wanted.

I then told them they could only take blue eggs even if they wanted a pink egg.  I asked them, "How did that make you feel?" They agreed they liked being able to choose the eggs they wanted rather than being told what to do.

I had them line up on the tape line and asked them to pick the plan they wanted to follow.  They chose Heavenly Father's plan and ran to the picture of Jesus.

I told them because they had chosen this plan they would get to go to Earth and get bodies.  We left Premortal Life and headed to Earth.

We put the coats over the girls' spirit bags to represent their bodies.  We told them that just like the bag is under the coat, our spirit is inside of us.

They then got to pick out any six eggs from the basket they wanted because they had chosen Heavenly Father's plan.

Another successful Family Home Evening!
