Minnie Mouse Ear Hair Clips

We took our kids to "The Happiest Place on Earth" for the very first time this year.  Boy, did they LOVE Disneyland!  I hadn't been there in 11 years.  It has changed so much!  Cars Land = incredible.  It's as if you have stepped directly into the movie.

Planning the trip to Disneyland was my secret joy.  I gave a different Disney-themed present to the kids each day that we were there.  I knew that I wanted to make the girls Minnie Mouse ears without having to buy the extremely expensive ones (little did I know that they would pick to buy Minnie Ears as their Disneyland souvenir anyway).  I came across these cute Minnie Ear Hair Clips from a Girl and a Glue Gun and I fell in love with them.  I had to make some!

We kept the trip to Disneyland a secret from the kids, which meant that all of my crafting had to be done at nighttime.  (I apologize that some of the pictures are in less-than ideal lighting.)  I follow the directions from a Girl and a Glue Gun on the ears, but I make my bows a little differently.

To make your own you will need:
Ribbon (1/2" thick)
1 piece of black felt
2 alligator clips
A piece of chalk
A cup
Scissors
A hot glue gun with glue

Here is how I made my ears:

Using chalk, I traced around the bottom of a cup onto a piece of black felt.

I cut them out,

Cut a slit into the middle,

Put them with an alligator clip, and set them aside for the time being.

Next, I made my bows.  I cut out two strips of ribbon (about 6 inches long) and tied two 3-inch pieces into a knot.

Next, I cut a 1-inch piece of ribbon in half.

I used it to cover the ends of the clip.

I glued along the edge of the cut area and overlapped the ear just enough to give it some form.  This prevented the ear from flopping over.

I folded the long ribbons like so and glued it together in the middle.

Finally, I glued my knots to my bow, glued the bows to the ear, and glued the ear to each clip.

Here's how they look when they are all done.  I knew my girls would love them!

The Minnie Mouse ears were a hit!  Here is Princess sporting her new ears (can you tell what ride we are on?).

The girls wore them to meet Ariel.

We had a magical time and the girls really fit in with the Disneyland crowd in their Minnie Mouse ear hair clips.

What are some of your favorite Disney crafts?
