A Visit From the Leprechauns

When I was growing up I thought of St. Patrick's Day as an annoying holiday where you have to wear green or get pinched.  I didn't want my kids to have a negative view of St. Patrick's Day like I used to.

I found this fun idea for a St. Patrick's Day Tradition and new I had to give it a try.

Before the kids went to bed I told them that St. Patrick's Day is the only time the leprechauns come out.  They are little people that like to run around at night.  They like gold and they are tricksters.

I told them that we were going to set out some gold next to our shoes and see if the leprechauns would take it.  We also hoped they would give us presents in our shoes in exchange for the free gold.

Here are our shoes all lined up for the night.

This is what we found this morning.

The gold was gone.  (If you would like this cute St. Patrick's Day Printable click on the link.)

Here's a closer look at what was in our shoes.

Bud got some nice green peas instead.  (What thoughtful leprechauns.)

Oh boy!  Candy!

But when we opened the refrigerator look what we found!  Those tricky little leprechauns had turned our milk green.

A visit from leprechauns, green milk, and Lucky Charms. It doesn't get any better than this.

Some years the leprechauns may not give anything and merely pull pranks.  Some years they might leave the gold booby trapped.  You never know with those little guys.  I can't wait to see what they will do next year.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
