Doctor Who-loween

To those of you who are going to Salt Lake Comic Con - I am EXTREMELY jealous!  What I wouldn't give for a glimpse of Matt Smith, or touch the T.A.R.D.I.S., or just to mingle with my fellow nerds.  *Sigh!*  I will try to get over it (but it is going to be REALLY hard).

If you can't tell by my picture, I am a die-hard Doctor Who fan.  What you are looking at in the picture above is my front door last Halloween (2014).  Yep.  I love decorating my house around a different theme each year.  What better theme for Halloween than Doctor Who?  The weeping angels alone give me nightmares.  Seriously.

I wanted to share my Doctor Who-loween decorations for those of you who need party/Halloween ideas (and to forget my Comic Con sorrows).

Let's start with the crack in the wall.  I used a roll of white vinyl and hand-drew the crack in the wall.  I cut out the letters using my Cricut machine.  I had never cut vinyl with it before and it worked like a dream.  My kids had to get in on the picture taking action.

These are the starting stages of my outdoor decorations.  I really loved my crack in the wall on the garage door.  You can also see my T.A.R.D.I.S. front door.  To make the T.A.R.D.I.S. I used a blue, plastic tablecloth.  I printed out the words for the door and drew some windows onto two sheets of white paper.  It was so easy (and did I mention dirt-cheap)!

Okay, here is the door nearing the final stages.  I wanted to show it in the daylight so you could see how I put it together.  I knew from the start that I wanted the T.A.R.D.I.S. to look like it was flying through space.  To do this, I painted some black garbage bags with white and glow-in-the-dark paint.  I also cut styrofoam balls in half and spray painted them to create worlds.

Here's a closer look at "space" so you can see what I'm talking about.  I hung everything up using stucco tape.  (I tried many tapes and this worked best on the stucco.  Just be prepared to re-adjust throughout the month.  Wind is not your friend - trust me.)  

Here's a shot of it in my black light.  I really like my Doctor silhouettes with orange lights behind them.  (The ghost has nothing to do with Doctor Who - we were BOO'ed.  In case you were wondering.)  

I'll get in some more pictures of the AWESOME (if I do say so myself) front door.  But first, let's turn our attention to my second story windows.  I bought 3 large sheets of black foam board from the dollar store.  I hand-drew a Silent, Dalek, and Cyberman.  After putting some orange lights behind them here is what they looked like.  (Please forgive the poor picture quality - I took these with my cellphone.)  These were such a fun statement piece for the windows.

Back to the front door.  These decorations were, as Nine would say, "Fantastic!"  I never wanted to take them down.

The neighbor kids loved it!  Not only did they feel like they were in space, but their costumes glowed in the black light as well.  Win-win!
