Pinning with Purpose: Dragon Birthday Party Decorations

My kiddos are growing up WAY too fast. Bud is now officially 3! I asked him what kind of birthday he wanted and he did not hesitate, "DRAGONS!"

I must admit I was super excited about this theme. Castles, dragons, and knights are some of my favorite things to read about, watch movies about, and basically geek out about. As usual, I went overboard on the decorations for his birthday, but I just can't help myself. Decorating is my creative outlet.

I am going to walk you through all of the decorations I put up in the house and let you know how you can make your own.

Front Door:

Here is a look at the front door. Let's get a little closer...

I made all of the banners with my Cricut machine, but I bet you could find some online. I made the torches using brown cardstock, red/yellow/orange tissue paper, scissors, a hot glue gun, and a stapler. I rolled the construction paper into a cone and stapled the top. Then, I used the hot glue gun to glue down the rest of the cone so it wouldn't pop open. I cut the tissue paper into flame shapes and glued them inside the cone at the front. To stick them on the wall I used command strips. They worked like a charm and didn't peel any of the paint.

I made this little sign and stuck it on the door.

Entryway:

I cut out a bunch of dragon feet from construction paper and put them all over the house. I printed and cut out some dragon silhouettes as well.

We had torches all over the "castle"

Using paper mache, I made a couple of dragon eggs and put them throughout the house. Using THIS flour and water paper mache recipe, I put newspaper all over a few balloons, let them dry, popped them, and painted them. I love the little dragon feet coming out of the egg.

I hung these banners all over the house. I am all about no-sew projects. All you need is green, yellow, blue, and black fabric/felt, scissors, a piece of paper, a pencil, and tacky glue. I cut out the banners first. Then, using the piece of paper and pencil I made a shield template. After I cut out all of the shields, I glued them onto the banners.

Living Room:

Using gray construction paper, I made each window look like a castle turret. Simply cut out the bricks and tape them around the window. Add torches, a banner, a couple dragon silhouettes and you're done.

I put some more small banners around the TV next to the presents.

Kitchen:

The kitchen was my favorite place to be during the party. I just love how everything came together. All of the decorations were super inexpensive too.

Here is the dragon's nest. This was probably the most expensive decoration to make. To make a dragon's nest you will need a cardboard box, scissors, plastic water bottles, orange lights, black spray paint, spray foam, a hot glue gun, and tulle. I followed THIS tutorial to make the burning embers. It worked perfectly and was actually easier than I expected. I stuck a few of my paper mache eggs on top and Ta-Da!
