Waiting for Jesus FHE Lesson

It's the most wonderful time of the year!  The ground is covered with snow, Christmas music plays throughout my house, lights sparkle all around, and there is a constant smile on each of my kids' faces.

As you know, it is hard to keep the true meaning of Christmas in the minds of children when there is so much fun to be had.  I wanted to give my children a sense of anticipation not just for Santa, but for remembering the Savior, Jesus Christ.

For our first Family Home Evening of the month we read the story "Waiting for Jesus" from The Friend magazine.  In the story, the little girl cannot find the baby Jesus for her family's nativity.  Mom explains that baby Jesus will not be put into the manger until Christmas day.  This is to remind them that many people waited for Jesus and that we are waiting still for his return.

After reading the story, I asked my children to walk over to our nativity display.  They noticed baby Jesus was missing.  I explained that we will put him in the manger on Christmas day just like the family in the story.

As we count down the days to Christmas my kids frequently remind me that we are also going to put Jesus into his manger that day.  They are extremely excited for baby Jesus to arrive.

What have you been doing with your family to remember Jesus this season?
